The Perfect Costumes for a Medieval Wedding

Perhaps she first caught your eye dressed in SCA garb, or maybe he looked dashing in his SCA armor. It could be that you were both wearing Renaissance costumes and enjoying a stroll through your local Faire when he captured your heart. Since then, time has passed and you're ready to tie the knot. If you're a fan of olden times, perhaps you're thinking of having a medieval wedding.

If so, you're not alone. More couples than ever are celebrating the beginning of their life together in full Renaissance costumes. And even the guests are getting in on the act, playing their parts and dressing in period garb. If your nuptials will have a medieval flair, you need the proper clothing and accessories. Here are some guidelines to get you started.

For Him

One of the most romantic looks for the groom is a cotton lace-up wedding shirt. For extra elegance, look for a shirt with rows of tiny tucks going down the sleeves and below the lace-up front. The shirts usually come in natural, black, and white, so he can wear the color appropriate to the season and time of day of your wedding. If he prefers a button front or you want a greater selection of colors, you can find a wedding shirt replete with tiny tucks that has three buttons going down the neckline. These shirts are often available in navy, grey, brown, mustard, teal, plum, wine, and forest green - one of which is sure to go with your wedding color scheme.

As for pants, depending on the season and time of day, you can opt for long twill breeches or knee-length twill breeches. The former are baggy, and usually feature both a button front and a drawstring at the waist, as well as drawstring cuffs. As the name implies, knee-length twill breeches have cuffs that tie just below the knee. You can typically buy them in a wide variety of colors, such as royal blue, tan, black, burgundy, or forest green.

For Her

For the Renaissance bride, it starts with the chemise. There are a wide variety of styles from which to choose, but one that's popular features sheer fabric that has demi sleeves and a sweetheart rose at the center of the neckline. For a more formal touch, there are chemises that feature extraordinarily long, hanging sheer sleeves and a gathered neckline. Similarly, a chemise with metallic gold trim at the square neckline is eye-catching.

As for your gown, you can go with something as simple as a cotton twill surcoat or as ornate as an Irish dress with a fleur-de-lis brocade bodice. You may even want to create your own gown; if so, there are numerous patterns from which you can choose.

For Both of You

If you're planning a medieval wedding, you'll also need the proper accessories. Dragons symbolize passion, monogamy, and love, so incorporating dragons into the ceremony or reception is wonderfully appropriate. Perhaps you'd like to wear a dragon double heart pendant, or you would like to use two dragon goblets for your toast.

If you're having a traditional ceremony, you'll most likely need handfasting cords, which will be used to bind you and your beloved's hands together with each promise you make to one another.

With the right planning, there are many ways to incorporate Renaissance themes and costumes into your special day. Celebrate with gusto!

The Proper Wedding Attire For Guests At A Wedding

It is not that hard to choose the proper wedding attire to wear when going to a wedding.  Most of us exert a lot of effort to look our best when going out, and going to a wedding is not any different from that.  As some people would say it, just look better than your best when attending someone’s wedding.

The Clues Are on the Invitation

A question that may come to mind when choosing what wedding attire to wear is exactly that: What should you wear to a wedding?  The answer to your question lies on the wedding invitation itself.  If the wedding invitation you have in your hand is embossed and engraved and talks in a very formal language, it only goes to show that the wedding is a formal event.  However, if the invitation is casually presented and written, it means that the wedding is a more casual and intimate affair.

Another clue that will help you decide what wedding attire to deck yourself in when you show up at a wedding is the venue of the wedding.  Church weddings with reception at a fancy restaurant always call for dressier wedding attire.  If it is a wedding at a beach or a destination wedding, it is perfectly acceptable to wear something more laid back.

Daytime or Evening?

Perhaps a more important clue that you should pay attention to in deciding what wedding attire to wear is the time of the wedding.  It spells a huge difference if the wedding is going to be held during the daytime or at night.

For daytime weddings, you do not need to show up in formal wedding attire.  It still depends on the degree of the formality of the wedding, but you can get away with wearing a suit in light colors or a stylish pastel dress.  You can also choose a skirt-and-blouse outfit as long as it looks sleek and smart.  Always go for light-colored clothes for daytime weddings and stay away from wearing black.

As for evening weddings, formal wedding attire is usually the required dress code, but that still depends on whether the wedding is black-tie optional or strictly black tie.  If the event is just black-tie optional, you can wear a dark suit or a cocktail dress.

With strictly black tie weddings, the appropriate wedding attire is a formal ball gown.  This is your chance to show off your style by wearing a floor-length evening dress, fancy evening wraps or shawls and formal jewelry.  Your makeup should be a little more heavy and dramatic than how you usually wear it.  Make sure, however that the wedding attire that you will get is something that fits well and feels comfortable for you.  You can only pull off a formal look if you are comfortable in it.  Besides, formal evening weddings call for a lot of dancing.

Inappropriate Wedding Attire

When it comes to choosing the proper wedding attire, there are literally thousands of dresses and suits that you can choose from when you shop.  But no matter how pretty a dress or suit is, you should not buy it if:

  1. It is white.  White is a color that only the bride should wear at a wedding.  Do not wear white to a wedding, whether it is daytime or evening.
  2. Denims are a huge no-no, even in casual weddings.
  3. Wear something modest and subdued.  The bride is the star of the wedding and it is in very bad form if you show up in wedding attire that is flashier than the bride’s wedding gown.  Also, if your dress is sleeveless or strapless, you should cover your shoulders with a jacket or a wrap.

Always look your best in the proper wedding attire when you come to a wedding.

Alexandrite jewelry for your wedding

Weddings are really important events for everyone and what better way to celebrate the perfect moments if not by wearing the most amazing alexandrite jewelry? The changing mysterious colors, the noble history and the rareness of the expensive alexandrite make it perfect for a wedding event. The bride would look spectacular and so would any guest at her wedding if they wore alexandrite jewelry.

Special occasions need special attention and the best way to do this is to have perfect catering and the guests to shine. While men have to wear impeccable suits, women have to be dressed with wonderful dresses and impress with special jewelry. The bride, who is the center of attention, will most likely want to wear something fascinating, to remember all her life. The most beautiful jewelry that will definitely make a person feel rare and precious is alexandrite jewelry.

The most likely to be able to give an answer to the question “Why?” is Randy G. Lander. She and her husband have been working with alexandrite for the last 10 years. Randy G. Lander is a Russian descendant and she carries on the medieval Khazars tradition of jewelry trading with an emphasis on alexandrite. She can tell you alexandrite is the rarest gemstone on earth. This is why it is more expensive than diamonds are and very appropriate for a wedding. Randy G. Lander also recommends alexandrite jewelry because of the color changing alexandrite they are made of. Weddings are events dominated by various emotions from fear of the future to share joy and happiness. Alexandrite can express every one of these emotions. The phenomenal gem can change its color depending on the intensity of light: from green, to ruby red or violet/purple. No other color changing stone has this mysterious power of change. The alexandrite truly dazzles the eye.

The alexandrite gemstone comes from the Czar Alexander II. The exquisite alexandrite jewelry was worn by Russian and German royalty. Empress Ekaterina was the first to own the alexandrite, but, due to a greedy and irresponsible caretaker of the royal vaults, some of the stones were sold to a German Prince. The German Prince gave the alexandrite jewelry as a gift to his wife. When The German Princess and Empress Ekaterina met, the mistakes of the royal caretaker were discovered and he was punished. The rest of the alexandrite jewelry was to be worn by the Empress herself.

Alexandrite jewelry still impresses scientists, gemologist, royal buyers and common buyers. The elements combined in an unmet before manner offer the alexandrite unique optical qualities and hardness. This is why alexandrite jewelry captures everyone’s attention and is the most sought jewel ornament.

Having such a story and such appreciation, the alexandrite jewelry should be the one you are wearing at your wedding or at someone else’s. A pair of earrings, a necklace or a ring made with alexandrite will make anyone stand out of a crowd. It is, after all, jewelry made for royalty and you are the Princess at your wedding.

Bridal Jewelry – Don’t just wear it for the wedding

Selecting the most beautiful bridal jewelry to match your dream wedding gown is so important to finishing off your bridal look.  Most brides wear their bridal jewelry for the wedding day only and then store it in a jewelry box or chest, never to be worn again.

Wearing your bridal jewelry after the wedding can bring back all of the warm memories you shared with your groom on that special day.  The best part of owning your bridal jewelry is that it can be worn again, cherishing that day each and every time it is worn.

A great time to “dig out” the bridal jewelry you wore for your wedding is on your anniversaries.  Most couples dress up and do something special together each year to mark their wedding anniversary.  Why not accessorize your formal attire with the bridal jewelry you wore on your wedding day.  Most brides choose white, ivory, clear pearls or crystals.  These are great for the wedding, because traditionally a bride wears a white or ivory color and these colors of pearls and crystals match the wedding gown perfectly.  It happens that your crystals can be worn with any dressed up outfit, as clear crystals match everything you can wear.  White or ivory pearls and crystals are just as easily matched, they look great with every color.

Surprise your groom on your next or first anniversary by wearing the bridal jewelry that you wore for your wedding day.  Men don’t notice much, but the bridal jewelry that was worn for your wedding day will bring back special and treasured memories for him as well.

When you spent your allotted budget on your bridal jewelry, it didn’t mean that you had to put it away after the wedding.  Wearing your bridal jewelry over and over is a great idea to make your moments together a little bit more special.  Make the most of your bridal jewelry, go out and celebrate your love, wear your beautiful bridal jewelry.

Celtic Wedding Rings and tying the Knot

The origins of the Celts dates back to prehistoric times when they emerged as a group of loosely knit tribes with a common culture and language.

Celtic settlements stretched from Turkey and the Balkans right across Western Europe. But it was the rise of the Roman Empire that would expose the lack of cohesion between the various Celtic tribes and would lead to them being overrun, expelled from their territories and being pushed back to the western fringes of the continent.

Although the ancient Celts flourished across Europe, it is in Ireland where their traditions have been most preserved.

One aspect of this culture that still survives today is the artwork and this is most commonly seen in jewellery such as celtic wedding rings.

Their artwork was believed to be very symbolic often being based on nature using images of birds and animals and fish. The Celts believed firmly in the interconnectedness of all life and produced the familiar Celtic Knots, which are interlaced patterns with no beginning and no end.

Although perhaps the true significance of these patterns has been lost over the millennia, Celtic designs remain increasingly popular in our modern world.

The Claddagh is a traditional symbol of love and friendship and is thought to have originated from Claddagh in Galway as far back as the 16th century since when has been worn by many as a wedding ring and as a symbol of love.

The design of the Claddagh consists of a heart as a symbol of love, a crown as a symbol of fidelity or loyalty and the hands depicted friendship. Tradition states that if you are spoken to you should wear the Claddagh on your left hand facing inward but if you are unattached it should be worn facing outward on the right hand.

Celtic crosses, which predate Christianity, can symbolize the four quarters of the earth and or the four elements – earth wind and fire. They are equal armed crosses which are enclosed or backed by a circle. Following the introduction of Christianity, it became more common to see Celtic Crosses on top of a matching pedestal, which gave it a more elongated look. Celtic crosses are often worn as jewellery such as rings or on chains around the neck.

Geometric designs have always feature prominently in Celtic artwork with spirals, chevrons, scrolls and knot work. Many of these patterns can be seen decorating stone carvings or ancient manuscripts and religious books.

The Celtic spirals are very symbolic with the single spiral generally thought to signify growth expansion and cosmic energy.

The dual centred spiral found often on stone carvings signifies duality and nature and is associated with motifs from other cultures such as the Ying Yang symbol.
Celtic knot work designs remain popular today and can vary from single elegant knot patterns to complex intricate interlaced patterns.

Although the symbolism of celtic designs may have been lost, many of the designs remain popular today and will often be seen used in the design of jewellery and in particular Celtic Wedding rings.

Choosing a Perfect Wedding Ring – Lifetime Of Gold or Silver

Do not forget the ring a saying famously drummed into the best man before the wedding, well that goes for the future bride/Groom as well. With all wedding preparations it is quite easy to slip your mind to buy the most important item that makes the  wedding ceremony a memorable one. The wedding ring is so important because it bonds two people together and it is the exchange of wedding rings that finalize the vow (I do).

Do a check list of all your wedding plans and be sure that choosing a perfect wedding ring is one of your top priorities besides turning up on the day?

Choosing a wedding ring is not as simple as you think, much thought is needed behind your chosen design. What you have to remember the wedding band binds the happy couple together forever. This ornate piece of Jewelry with so much meaning will be worn every day so we need to choose something pretty special.

Back to your budget which will play an important role when making your choice, because of the penny shortage does not mean that you can not have that piece of warm gold or cool silver, if precious stones were to be embedded or mounted in your actual design then dont expect to many diamonds with just a fist full of dollars.

Jewelry materials like what is used in wedding rings have evolved over the years.
Popular is the 14K/18 yellow gold which you will find more of a favourable option worldwide. Close on its heels is the white gold gaining more popularity by the day.

Why not consider platinum, known to be one of the hardest metals and once again a fine choice in a wedding ring.  Platinum is a durable material and therefore able to hold up to any wear and tear. Platinum wedding rings look very similar to rings made of white gold which many can be excused for the mix up but at the end of the day both look stylish and elegant.  However, platinum wedding rings are more expensive.

For the man it has to be Titanium which is becoming a favourite among the male species. It is light and long lasting and far less expensive as platinum.  Once again Titanium wedding rings can be mistaken for the white gold in appearance.

Styles and what to choose is where you come in, only you know what you are looking for therefore it is wise to shop around before making the final decision, you would never forgive yourself if you see a cheaper ring around the corner and more beautiful. There are so many designs and styles to choose from. You have traditional plain bands to more up market  exquisite ones.

Modern society designs are worth checking out. Why not opt for a two-tone wedding band.  Celtic wedding rings are famous these days with couples where they bond their marriage with highly carved and engraved work of a craftsman.

In some cases the bride matches her wedding ring with the design of her engagement ring.  This also has to be taken into consideration when mixing and matching especially when both rings are worn on the same finger.
It is best to know the ring size if shopping out of a catalogue or online.

By going into a jewellers for the wedding bands will cause you less stress where if the rings are ordered they may not be the right size or wrong design when delivered therefore all the heartache of having to send them back. Now we dont want more heartache than necessary as you have that to come with married life (Only joking)

Online shopping is an easy option just be sure to have the right measurements etc and all should be hunky dory just like the hunk you are about to marry.

Create Your Own Wedding Ring

Have you been searching for the perfect wedding ring? Many people spend hours and hours shopping for the perfect wedding ring only to end up very discouraged. Often they can not find the ring they want or if the can it is out of their price range. The simplest solution to this dilemma is to create your own wedding ring.

Wedding rings are very important to a couple who have taken the step and decided to spend the rest of their lives together. The wedding ring is the outer physical symbol of this agreement or pact that the couple has made to each other. The ring is a symbol for the vows a couple has taken. Since it is the outward symbol of the marriage it is very important to choose a wedding ring carefully and to find exactly what you want. That is why creating your own wedding ring is often the best option. It is easy, can save you a great deal of money and you will have a unique symbol that the two of you share.

This article will list some of the top reasons you should consider getting a custom wedding ring instead of buying a stock ring from a store.

Custom made wedding rings are Unique

That is right by designing your own ring with a professional ring designer you can ensure that your rings are unique. In fact you will be the only two people in the world to have that exact ring and that exact design. What better symbol of your love to show off to the world then having your own unique wedding ring. Believe me you will get compliments on your ring everywhere you go. People are often amazed that you can even make your own rings and love the uniqueness of the designs.

Custom made wedding rings are Personalized

In creating your own wedding ring you can personalize the design to fit your tastes and even contain secret symbols or messages to each other. If you have a favorite style of ring or artistic style, colors or other thing that you would like to include in the design the jeweler will be glad to consult with you and help you incorporate the design into your ring. For example a lot of people really love the deep symbolism of Celtic knot work since this is a knot tied with one piece of rope and it is never ends it is a continuous knot that runs forever. A lot of people really love this symbolism and love wear a customer made unique wedding ring that has these types of symbols in them. It brings a lot of significance to the ring.

Mutual Agreement

In making your own wedding ring you will come to a mutual agreement on the design and it is an experience that you will always share together. When you sit down with the designer you can both share your ideas openly and talk about the significance of the ring for each of you. Then the designer can work with these ideas and your suggestions and create something that will embody all of these things. It is wonderfully to wear a ring that was created from a joint experience you both had and not just some stock designer ring that holds no meaning or no experience or significance behind it.

Price

This is the best part for many people just getting married. By designing your own ring you are usually reducing the cost of the rings. You see most rings are created by some famous wedding ring designer and the price is based on the popularity of the designer. However, the average person has no idea who these famous wedding ring designers are anyway. So even though you spend a great deal of money on a wedding ring by a well known artist chances are most people will have no idea. However, by making your own ring there is no designer label or name behind it and therefore the costs is often cut in half or even more! Not only that chances are the most people will have no idea who the designer is of a certain ring they will definitely notice you have a unique one of a kind ring!

My wife and I decided to get a custom designed engagement and wedding ring set when we were engaged. Not only that we had the designer work with us to incorporate the feeling of the wedding ring into the design of the grooms or men’s ring also. So now they look like a perfect matching pair of rings! Just think we saved over 65% by purchasing this way at the same time as ending up with unique rings. You really can not go wrong in designing your own wedding ring.

Diamond Wedding Ring Guide: Tips And Advice For Choosing Your Ring

One activity that you will undoubtedly appreciate when preparing for your wedding ceremony is the wedding ring selection. Like most young girls, you have probably spent most of your life dreaming of the perfect diamond wedding ring. Hopefully, you and your fiancĂ© have decided to shop for rings together, or you have informed him of what you like. You will wear the wedding ring for a significant amount of time and it only makes sense that it's something that you like. If your knowledge of diamond wedding rings is limited to size, it's a good idea that you obtain more information before you make your wedding ring selection.

Loose or Set

When most people think of a diamond wedding ring, they often think of a stone that is already set or mounted. You can actually buy a diamond only and choose a setting later. The intelligence in doing so is cost. When you shop for loose diamonds you will notice that diamonds are available in various sizes, including oval, round, and marquise. If you don't have a personal preference for a certain style, you might want to consider your hands. Certain styles complement certain types of hands. A good guide is to match the shape of the diamond to the hand. Do you have long, narrow fingers? An oval-shaped diamond or similar elongated style diamond for your wedding ring would probably work for you. Round diamonds are considered a good choice for most hands.

The Perfect Setting

Something else to consider when shopping for a wedding ring is the setting. Do you choose platinum or yellow or white gold? Yellow gold is the setting that most people choose for their wedding ring. It is typically less expensive than platinum or white gold. If you choose a yellow gold wedding ring, be careful that you don't choose a higher quality just because you think it is better. As the quality of yellow gold goes up, the softer the metal becomes. A wedding ring set in 24k gold will be less resilient to scratches than a ring that is set in 14k gold. Platinum is by far the most expensive and most durable of the trio. White gold is a good choice for a wedding ring setting if versatility is important to you. White gold tends to go with everything.

White diamonds are by far the most popular. Did you know that you could buy a pink diamond? Diamonds are available in other colors, but these are typically more expensive. Second to the classic white diamond is the yellow diamond. When shopping for your wedding ring you will actually find more of these than any other color of diamond.

Considering Cost

Your budget probably carries the most weight in your wedding ring selection. A wedding ring featuring a diamond can cost as little as $100 and as much as $1,000,000. In general, the amount of money you can expect to pay for a diamond wedding ring will vary according to the type of stone and the setting. The more carats a wedding ring has the more it will cost. Diamonds set in platinum will cost you the most, while you will spend very little on a wedding ring set in 14-carat gold. You can balance the cost by buying a wedding ring with a high number of carats and set in a less expensive setting.
